Course overview

Payroll is an area of business which is constantly changing and keeping up-to-date and compliant is a real challenge. This course will bring you up to speed on all the latest developments, including Benefits in Kind, statutory payments, national minimum wage, IR35 and Universal Credit. It will also discuss further major changes such as the significant increases in National Insurance Contributions and the new Health and Social Care Levy.

The compliance activity around the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) is now in full swing and will be with us for the next 6 years, so we will also outline what you can expect from HMRC and how to prepare.

Our expert presenter will guide you through these complex subjects and ensure you are well prepared for the months ahead. Attending this important update will give you the confidence to know that you organisation is running a compliant payroll operation.

What will be covered?

This payroll update course will cover the following areas:

  • Benefits in kind:
    • What issues does hybrid working now present in terms of benefits in kind?
    • Will your P11Ds be correct this year, especially in respect to the end of the company car transitional rules?
  • Hot topics:
    • NMW - it's not just about low earners, most employers appear to be non-compliant according to HMRC. What do you need to be aware of?
    • Deemed workers caught by IR35 – the payroll implications
    • Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay - have you updated policies?
    • Paying and reclaiming SSP - the Covid-19 changes are still live
    • Student loan plan 4: how do we handle multiple plans?
  • Universal Credit (UC):
    • With 2.3m employees now in receipt of UC, and also working, do you understand the interaction with earnings and what to do if things go wrong?
  • Tax year 2022/23: what do we know already? And what might be on the agenda?
    • Definite: New NI exemptions, the provision of forms on .gov.uk, amendments to the EPS for sub-contractors
    • NI increases and the introduction of the Health and Social Care Levy, enforcement of holiday pay by a new regulator and return to normal gender pay gap reporting deadlines
    • There will also be new employment law protections for those returning from family leave and other changes emanating from the Good Work Plan
  • The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme:
    • What are the risk areas with claims and HMRC compliance plans?

Who should attend?

The course is crucial for people with any Payroll or HR responsibility within their company. Whether you run your payroll in-house or outsource it to an agent – you will benefit a great deal from attending this course.

If you outsource your payroll, this course will help you ensure that you are getting good value for money from your agent and also make you aware of any changes that still need to be implemented by employers rather than their agents.

It is also perfect for the payroll agents themselves, who are looking to ensure that the payroll service they are providing for their clients is fully compliant.

The course assumes some prior understanding of payroll or HR. If you do not have this, you may wish to consider our full-day course The Essentials of UK Payroll Processing before attending this course.

Extra benefits

  • A course pack containing the information presented on the day
  • A certificate of attendance
