Course overview

Postponed VAT Accounting (PVA) for imports was introduced to provide cash flow assistance to VAT registered importers. However, many businesses importing under this option have encountered practical difficulties when introducing the changes and understanding the steps required to complete the VAT return correctly.

The course will provide practical advice and guidance on the PVA rules and help you avoid the common issues businesses are facing. Using clear examples and illustrations, we will take you through each of the key stages in the process - including liaising with your customs agents, the declaration requirements, accessing and downloading the PVA statement and the completion of the VAT return.

What will you learn?

  • What is Postponed VAT Accounting (PVA)?
  • How VAT is collected on imports
  • How to notify HMRC that you are using PVA
  • How does PVA work?
  • What entries are required on the VAT return?
  • How to complete entries on the customs declarations
  • How to obtain Postponed Import VAT Statements
  • What are the alternatives to PVA?

  • Accessing the Customs Declaration Service
  • Viewing and downloading the Postponed Import VAT Statements
  • Checking statements for errors
