Course overview

The Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System, or Harmonised System (HS) for short, is an internationally standardised system of names and numbers to describe or classify specific products when importing or exporting goods.

HS classification is not always straightforward and certain nuances apply to particular goods and sectors. Traders bear the main legal responsibility for accurate classification of their goods. However, a lack of familiarity with the rules often leads to errors and misapplication of the correct commodity codes. This results in the imposition of non-compliance penalties, border delays, seizure of goods or denial of import privileges.

This 90-minute online course on Tariff Classification will provide participants with essential knowledge and understanding of classifying goods within the Harmonised System. It will explain what a commodity code is and how to use the UK Global tariff. Attending this course will help you appreciate the importance of correct classfication and understand the information required to correctly classify your goods.

The course is presented by our international trade expert, David Hooper, who has helped hundreds of businesses to classify their goods in compliance with international import/export regulations.
