Course overview

Any organisation that is involved in international trade will appreciate the many challenging situations that can arise when dealing with VAT. One of the biggest challenges when accounting for VAT is determining the place of supply and failure to do so can result in costly errors.

This practical, scenario based course, gives you the chance to gain further insight into the often confusing subject of VAT and cross-border transactions. It is an interactive session that explores some of the more complex VAT situations that can arise and demonstrates how to analyse the transactions and establish the correct place of supply and VAT treatment.

Delegates are presented with a number of interesting real life situations where the parties involved failed to account for VAT correctly. As part of small break-out groups they then scrutinise the transactions and draw conclusions as to the correct VAT treatment. Our VAT expert will be on hand to discuss and guide people to most appropriate outcomes, leaving you with the confidence to resolve your own complex VAT issues in the future.

What will you learn?

  • When does an organisation have to register for VAT in a country other than its own?
  • What are the VAT implications of there being an intermediary in a supply chain?

  • What is the role of an invoice processing centre?

  • What are the place of supply rules for international services?
  • What are the factors to consider when carrying out a service in another country on behalf of a client in your own country?
