The Bribery Act 2010 was a significant piece of legislation which introduced new offences relating to bribery, applicable both to individuals and corporations.

Despite being in force for over 10 years, many organisations have little understanding of the legislation and fail to implement the processes required to protect their business. This failure can have serious implications for the organisation and for individuals. Ranging from unwelcome attention from regulators to civil or criminal action and in a worst-case scenario, criminal prosecution and conviction for facilitating the payment of bribes.

This comprehensive half-day course will guide you through the Bribery Act and the international context in which it was implemented. It will cover the key concepts around bribery and corruption and explain the main offences, as well as demonstrating how to plan and implement a strategy that mitigates the risks of a corporate breach of the legislation.

Course presenters

  • Laurence Howland

    Laurence has 30 years experience working with HMRC as a criminal investigator and a specialist in tax fraud and financial crime. He has delivered training both within HMRC and internationally on proceeds of crime legislation, criminal finances and money laundering.

    Laurence has also spent over 4 years as the UK Fiscal Crime Liaison Officer to Beijing working directly with the Chinese government and across the Far East to improve mutual understanding of and collaboration on international fraud and money laundering. He has acted as an expert witness in cases involving the underground transfer of funds from China to the UK.
