Bringing in-house training to the online environment...

Posted on 22 May 2020SharePrint

online-trainingDue to the current situation surrounding COVID-19, we recently presented an online in-house version of our very popular one-day course, The Role of a Company Director.

The feedback from all the delegates was extremely positive and one commented,“The software and ability to interact was 150% better than I was anticipating.   It was great to have a tutor with such Director experience.”

The course was delivered ‘in-house’ for the board of a chemical manufacturing company based in the midlands. It was presented by David Joel, a chartered director and foremost expert on company law who regularly presents UK Training’s courses for Directors. David took time to speak with the client before the course to get an understanding of their company and some of the key issues they faced.

The content of the course was split into two 3-hour sessions on consecutive days, to avoid spending a whole day sat in front of a computer. The first day focused on the legal requirements and liabilities and the second day on the practical aspects of the director’s role. Several of the directors were new to the role and the second day was of particular interest. They were having to learn how to function together as a board, which can be difficult at the best of times, but even more so during the current crisis.

The process of logging on to the course was very easy. A link from an email took participants to a web page where they could enter the virtual training room and enjoy the training without leaving home. The sound was crystal clear and the visuals easy to follow. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions or make comments through the presentation tools that helped make the experience interactive and keep the delegate’s engagement and focus...  “Online delivery worked a lot better for me than I expected - chat and polls kept me focused and in the room."

Presenting the course online meant it was necessary to tweak some of the usual classroom-based activities. A scenario-based piece of groupwork was made available for people to download and read before the course. David then used a mix of chat boxes and polls to shepherd people through the solutions. It was pleasing to see that this worked extremely well.

Another exercise based on Do’s and Don’ts was carried out using two virtual flipcharts for people to type their answers on. It was a simple but highly effective way of facilitating a discussion as we would in a classroom.

Another feature that really brought this experience to life was David’s presenting style. He had many good stories and examples of situations that demonstrated each topic during the course. His wealth of experience at such a high level made this very interesting and the stories were enjoyable to listen to as highlighted by one attendee...“Presenter did extremely well to remain engaging and interesting”.
