CDS - The New Customs Declaration Service

90min recording

Course overview

90 minute on-demand online course - taken from a 2023 live recording

The Customs Declaration Service (CDS) has now replaced CHIEF for handling imports, with exports following in November 2023. Every business that trades internationally must be signed up for CDS, so it is crucial to understand the new system in order to continue working well with your agents and trading effectively.

This 90-minute course recording will provide you with a step-by-step guide to using the CDS dashboard and will clearly outline the various new options and features available to you.  Importantly, it will help you understand the new customs declarations and how they differ from the CHIEF C88s - highlighting the key boxes you will need to be aware of.

The course is presented by our international trade expert, David Hooper, who has already helped many businesses adapt their systems in readiness for the changes.

What will be covered?

  • Why is CHIEF/NES being replaced?
  • What are the key changes under the CDS?
  • What do you need to communicate to your agents?
  • How do you access and navigate the CDS Dashboard?
  • What will the new CDS declarations look like?
  • What are the key boxes on the new CDS declarations?
    • How are the boxes different to CHIEF C88s?
    • What brand new information is required on CDS declarations?
  • What duty and VAT payment methods are available under CDS?
    • How do use Cash Accounts?
    • How do you use Duty Deferment Accounts (DDA)?
    • Can you still use PVA?
    • Will C79s be changing?
  • How do you authorise your agent to use your CDS account for payments?

Who should attend?

Any business that trades internationally but does not undertake the processing of declarations themselves - instead contracting this to a freight forwarder / customs broker or courier company.

Business owners, directors and managers that need to understand how to deal with the new procedures related to international trade.

You will need to have an understanding of the fundamental principles of import/export rules and procedures.
